Bio

My start in photography began when I took a road trip with my grandparents in the back of a diesel 1981 Mercedes. We were headed back to BC from Ontario, and I was sent with a camera given to me by my dad to catch the journey on film. As a 10 year old, that first trip to the lab was very exciting, although it resulted in limited success.

In high school, my interest was peaked when we experimented with different shooting techniques. By allowing me free reign on time and equipment, my eccentric but encouraging photography teacher taught me how to control the creative element in what I produced. It was during this exciting time that I truly believed that photography was what I wanted to do full time.

Majoring in photography at college, I was soon offered a job with a local newspaper as a photojournalist, learning more in the first 2 weeks than in high school and college combined.

My next job landed me behind the lens on the whitewater of the Nahatlatch River near the Fraser Canyon. While shooting from the shore, I quickly learned that raft guiding was something I wanted to try out. I trained to be a guide the following year, and split my time between shooting and guiding. Guiding for the last 12 years has led me to many amazing places, camera always in hand.

After traveling around the globe for a while, I ended up in Whistler working as a photographer and skiing more than anyone should. I had the unique opportunity to shoot everything possible from extreme ski action to corporate head shots and commercial architecture. Having the chance to shoot a variety of subjects allowed me to find my own style.

My unique vision has been molded by experience and stays sharp by shooting advertising, stock and editorial assignments. To keep my guiding skills well-oiled, I spend a month a year guiding rafting expeditions in the Northern Yukon and Alaska and the occasional weekend back on the Nahatlatch.

Creative problem solving and the drive to keep relevant and contemporary are the reasons I stay motivated. I am dedicated to working with my clients by understanding their vision and delivering a quality product that matches their needs. Whenever I look around the world we live in, I see new images that I think need to be shared. This, combined with a thirst for new adventure will keep me challenged for the years to come.
